I had posted a thread once before about this machine and some rollers at the exit end of the fuser section in this machine starting to move from where they are supposed to be on the shaft that they ride on. These are my questions. On the end of the shaft by the fuser unit is a knob for turning misfed paper out the fuser unit so the customer can pull it out, however this knob will not turn the paper out and only turns one way and if memory serves me correctly it feeds the piece of paper back into the fuser unit which is pointless. Should this knob turn the paper both ways and is there a reason why it would be doing this? I did notice when I was going to try and take the shaft and rollers out of this machine that the gear on the backside of the copier on the other end of the shaft is cracked and appears to have been super glued on. What problems, if any, could this cause and could it be the cause of my other problem? Any help appreciated, thank you.

Not quite as familiar with these as I used to be, but this may cause you a problem - only because once a gear is cracked the teeth tend to catch on adjacent gears and don't transfer torque evenly.
As for the "one way knob" the idea is for the customer to be able to crank a fuser jam back out, not to roll any more paper under the strippers. The early 5245's had the same sort of setup. There was a spring wrapped around the shaft on the pressure roller and a tab into the knob to make a poor man's one way bearing - problem was, the knob screw kept falling out because of the way things turned. Ricoh issued an update with a spring wrapped the other way around and put a regular screw in the handle to lock the thing solid (something most techs were doing with just the screw) The whole setup worked much better this way, and you could clear a jam whichever way made the most sense.73 DE W5SSJ
