    Ricoh 1224c Networking

Im hoping someone can help! We've got a Ricoh 1224C Photocopier and are having problems trying to network it using an ethernet cable. Ive manually entered the IP address on the copier, but the pc doesnt pick up the copier. The message 'check ip address' keeps appearing on the copier.

Would be very grateful if someone could go through the process of setting up the network. The copier comes with scanner, fax and print.

Ive also been told that we might need software. We didnt get a manual nor software with the copier. We are running windows xp

    Thanks

    ip

First the ip. Address of the copier have to be same (first tree parts and the last one different) with your computer.

      Thanks Ivacopy.

I went onto the pc and typed IP config which gave me an IP address of 192.168.x.1

I used the same IP as the pc, but changed the last digit by 1, i.e. 192.168.x.2

I also used the same subnet 255.255.xxx.x

The photocopier is connected to the pc by an ethernet cable. We also have a wireless router which we use for broadband. The pc also has wireless card.

      Thanks

If I understand correctly, you have the copier plugged in directly to the pc with a patch cable, and also a wireless card on the pc. If this is correct then it won't work. You can't use wireless and the ethernet RJ45 at the same time on the pc.
Also the copier needs to go through a switch/router before it connects to the pc or use a crossover cable if you want to connect directly to the pc (assuming you disabled the wireless first, but then you wouldn't have network access).
Your best bet is to plug the copier into the wireless router if possible or use a wireless bridge if cabling isn't feasible.

do you inserted the gateway in the machine?
gateway is the adress of the router
          ex: 192.168.1.1

            Thanks.

Ive managed to get the copier to communicate with the pc. I can now print from the Pc onto the copier .

I can also scan from the pc using 'paperport' software. But ive used a Ricoh copier in my previous work place and im sure I could rememeber clicking on the 'scan' button on the copier and it automatically sent the file directly to the scan folder onthe pc, instead of me going through paper port software.

Do I need software to allow me to do this. Once ive got the scanner setup, the final task will be to setup the fax so that the faxes received are saved on the pc (creating a separate folder for faxes), rather than the fax printing out automatically every time a fax comes through.

Sorry no scan to folder on this old dog. Go with the TWAIN scanning you have set up now. The other option is ScanRouter and it isnt available as a download anymore.
Get the fax working, then enter the web portal, by typing the address of the copier into the address bar of a web browser. Enter admin mode using (I think, ) no user name and password as the password. Configure fax forwarding in configuration>fax.

The 1224c could scan to email but could not scan to folder directly without using the Scanrouter software.

Your best option if you wanted to scan to folder would be to install scanrouter lite (free).

This topic http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/ri...etup-help.html will give you some information on setting up scanrouter, if you get stuck drop me a line.

                  thanks,

ive installed the scanrouter software and typed in the ip address for the copier (under i/o).

However, i cant see no option on the scanner to scan to folder. Is there an option I need to change on the scanner.

Ive read somewhere about SMB. As long as it is easy to install and all the scans are saved onto a folder on the pc, and receive faxes directly on to the pc

This seems more confusing then setting up the copier

Right appologies I should have read thoroughly earlier. The 1224c cannot save incomming faxes to Folder using SMB you would need a newer product for this. The scanrouter I mentioned earlier would just push scans to a folder on the pc.

I believe Scanrouter Pro (not free) would allow incomming faxes to be transfered to a folder.

Where can I get scanrouter pro from and how much does this cost?

As long as it saves scanned documents and faxes onto the pc, that is all we need.

ok, Ive installed scanrouter v2 lite and found the copier ip address. Ive added a user and selected scan to file. Ive disabled firewall- all ok.

When i go to the scan function on the copier it says that the destination list has failed.

Ive gone into the system maintenance and into 'delivery' and turned it on, but it wont allow me to change the ip address.

Delivery IP address should be the IP of the computer you have Scanrouter loaded on, and it should get this address automatically if Scanrouter has been configured correctly, and ALL required ports and exceptions have been enabled. If it is not getting it, there is still a roadblock somewhere. Could even be A/V software, or hardware firewall if there is one.

On the 1224c you can manually change the delivery server address in the service SP mode only, not user tools.(Scanner sp I believe). Make sure you have scanrouter loaded on a pc with a static address (ideally a server) or you're going to get connection failures when that pc gets a new address somewhere down the road.
As Notorious stated, if all settings are correct then most likely the problem is firewall/anti-virus. Norton and Mcaffee are notorious for that, just add an exception for the ip of the mfp.
You didn't mention it but I assume the delivery server has admin rights with login and p/w? That's also required for scanrouter.

ping the copier from the computer. check your router. ip address of copier must coencide with gateway addres eg. 192.168.0.1 may be your gateway then give your copier an address to something like 192.168.0.100
