    Aficio 2060 with zebra copies

    That's cute, isn't it? I'm getting this one on one of our machines.

    It got a brand new HDD fitted a couple of weeks ago - could it be related?

      It definitely looks like a digital processing problem. It could be the HDD, try unplugging it and run some more. Is it consistent? Does it happen on both scanned copies and prints?
      I had a different model that only on scanned images it would take about 2 inches off the lead edge and place it on the trail edge with reversed text! Print jobs and engine prints (meter pages, logs) were normal. Turned out to be the IPU board.

        Try formatting the HDD but, failing that, could it be laser-related?

              The machine had the HDD replaced a week ago. Worked fine for a week, now is giving problems once again. Either the new HDD flopped or the RAM is faulty.

                hmmmm... there is an offset in main scan direction, could be a laser issue.
                what about prints? are they ok?

                  Didn't I read a post earlier which said that this had been solved? Something to do with a Katun drum, I think...

                    Had that issue once. Replaced the laser diode to resolve.

                        Sorry for the delay, but the work has been hectic here on my side.

                        So, a brief list of things done to this machine:

                        - Formated HDD;
                        - Updated firmware;
                        - New HDD - Worked fine for a week after this;
                        - Formated HDD once more;
                        - Cleaned memory contacts with a rubber pencil eraser;
                        - Now I'm here again - thinking of disconnecting all the connectors and connecting everything again.

                        Symptoms:

                        - SC992 mainly when the machine is reading to memory (which leads me to believe it's a memory/HD problem). According to the operator, the machine throws out an SC992 when it's reading from the ARDF - the machine will stop reading originals, the motors will work for around two minutes, the SC992 error code will popup, and if the machine is left untouched will print the remaining copies that were read before stopping the ARDF before stopping definitely. Weird? Yeah, I also thought so. Happened more than once, also.

                        Also the operator tells me it always happens from the ARDF - when reading books from the platen glass, she has no problems whatsoever.

                        Answering the previous question: Copies only, the machine has no printer optional.

                          Just printed the log data, and instead of helping me, just got me even more puzzled. So, here's the list of the latest SC codes, from top to bottom: 992, 992, 122, 992, 515, 992, 992, 992, 992, 992.

                          So, the 122 is an optics related error and the 515 is - if I got it correctly - related to the tandem tray's rear fence.

                          How does this help me exactly?

                            I'm still going for the laser.

                            As for the SC992s, I'd update the firmware. Does it give the SC992 when you store jobs to the document server?

                              The firmware was updated a short time ago (I really forgot to add it to the list above). As for the document server, the customer doesn't use it - I tried it without problems, but the operator has been using the machine today since I got here without any problems.

                              it appears that the machine could be working fine an entire day without trouble and the next day not be able to read 3 sheets of paper without throwing the 992 code.

                              Maybe I should check the laser as you say - is my only option to replace it or is there any test I can conduct?
