Small Color Machine with bw/color control

    Hello there, guys.

I'm in quite a squeeze right now. We have a customer with the following requirements:

    a) Small machine (desktop form factor)
    b) Cheap(ish)
    c) Network scan - email and folder
    d) User-based control for copies/prints
    e) BW/Color based permissions
    f) Machine usage by user (accounting)

I can't find anywhere a Ricoh-machine that unites all of these requirements. The ideal machine would be the Aficio SP C232SF, but it only answers to requirements a, b and c (it only allows to block copies, scans and faxes - no mention to printing - and it gives no distinction between bw and color. Besides, it doesn't count copy/print usage).

The alternative would be the MPC2050, but it's big and expensive for the customer's planned spending.

So, am I wrong about the C232? Can it do what its needed, but I just don't know how? Or am I stuck without a valid proposal for this customer?

I think the MPC2050 would be the best machine for the job. Failing that, if you're brave enough, there's always the MPC1500.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

I assume that "brave enough" is because that machine is, basically, a geljet... right?

Yeah the is a Gel Sprinter. BIG POS.

Don't think your customer is gonna get what they want. Comes a point when Cheap doesn't give ya much.

Problem is the competition has a machine much like the one I'm talking about that apparently does what the customer wants.

Looks like an HP almost. Yeah I can say Savin has never cared for the Small For Factor Market. I'm surprised the Savin 3515/816/917 machines work well.

I'm sorry if it looks that I'm beating on a dead horse, but is there any way the SP C232 can do any of the following?

              d) User-based control for copies/prints
              e) BW/Color based permissions
              f) Machine usage by user (accounting)

Snagged the Following Info from the OPERATIONS MANUAL for this machine from the Ricoh RFG Esource site.

                Hope you have a login.

As for limited how many pages per user. I know Ricoh has a new app that does that. Seems its free. Not sure its compatible. Would think it would be since this machine does have an Actual WEB Image Monitor.

Ricoh new app = User Account Limit Application
Can be found on the TSCweb.net site under Solutions.

Restricting Machine Functions According to User

You can set the machine to require a user ID when someone tries to copy, send
faxes, or scan using the control panel.
To enable this setting, you must first configure the machine via Web Image Mon-

                Enabling the User Restriction Settings
This section describes how to set the machine to permit only authorized users to
copy, send faxes, or scan using the control panel.
Using Web Image Monitor, select the function you want to restrict, and then reg-
ister the users who can use that function. For each user, you can specify which
                functions are available upon authentication.
A maximum of 20 users can be registered.
A Start the Web browser, and access the machine by entering its IP address.
                B Click [Restrict User Function].
C Under "Restrict User Settings", select [Enable] for the function you want to
                restrict.
Select [Disable] for the functions you do not want to restrict.
D Enter the administrator password if required.
                E Click [Submit].
The user restriction setting is enabled for the selected function. Proceed to the
                following steps to register users.

The GelSprinter does have its place... if you can find a garbage can big enough to fit one.

Actually, I've never worked on one, but talking to the techs who have they're easy - anything goes wrong you replace the print engine. For $700+.

They are supposed to be great for archival printing - if you use non-acid paper the archive length is > 100 years and doesn't fade.
