ricoh 1045 fax issue

Hi guys,

Hope you can shed some light on this one. I have a customer that when they recieve faxes from a couple of customers, the fax is printed out on 2 pages instead of one. The first page will have most of the fax on and the second page will have the remaining 2 inches of the fax, its like an oversized fax has been recieved? I have had this before on a 1013 fax and i changed a printer switch. On this machine i have changed a couple of bit switches relating to the auto shrinking of faxes but i still get the problem.

Any ideas or settings that you have used to remedy this fault?

Sounds like it may be a problem on the 'couple of customers' end who are sending the faxes, but that may be hard to prove.

You may want to try turning off ECM just for s&g's.

You're real problem is geography.

I'm thinking that there isn't much that you can do for this problem.

During phase B the DIS Digital Identification Signal, UTI capabilities are transmitted, including available paper sizes and modem speeds. The sender designates the specific page size in the beginning of PIX Picture Signal Data, and if the desired paper size is available that is what it will print on. If that paper size is not available the receiver may substitute another size, and break or reduce the image per your settings.

This is just a long way of saying that if the sender asks for a specific paper size, and its available on the receiver, that's what you'll get.

Now from the sender side, I know of instances where the sender falsely identifies the original size causing strange affects at the receiver. For example, if the person sending stacks a pile of originals on the original length sensor of their Sharp AR-M450N, then feeds letter size originals, the SPF will detect ledger size originals and the reciever will get a rotated image that is 64% of its original size (exactly what you would expect from a ledger size transmission). Or if the DF of a Canon fax230 is feeding slowly, a letter R sized original image may become stretched and detected as legal sized, then when recieved be printed as legal (if available) or reduced by 78% to letter size.

So what you really need to fix is the sender not the reciever. =^..^=

The original could also be dragging on the senders fax.

I this alot on those $100 Brother units you can get at Wally World. After 3 yrs or so, the rollers are dirty as crap and this causes the original to drag it's way through the scanner. Hince, the fax thinks the originals is actually legal paper size and not letter.

To combine what Blackcat and Unisys just stated:

If the original being sent is A4, and not letter, its dimensions are 8.3" x 11.7", making it longer from the start. The US is the only country in the world (not sure about some of Canada) that uses letter, legal, and ledger. That being said, a lot of machines can auto convert A4 to letter - not sure on the 1045, though.

If you then combine that with a slipping document feeder, you can very easily end up with a page that's really long, triggering an extra page.
