Ricoh 1224c Help!! Phantom jam at section 'B'!

    Hi all

Before I start, I hate these machines!! Hoping to upgrade them in the very very near future!

    The problem:

The error reported was SC-142 Which relates to the scanner not able to achieve its gain reference.

Upon arrival, the machine had a jam message stating to remove jam from area 'C' and 'B' which is the right door assy and interchange assy areas.

The jam message appears immediately at power on.

It also had the error SC-142.

A simple replacement of the lense block cured the the SC-142.

Somehow I managed to clear the jam at area 'C' (interchange area) even though there was no paper. All I did was remove the interchange unit. But I cannot for the life of me see why it states to remove jam from area 'B' (right door), theres no paper!

    What I have done:

Removed the duplex and right door assy, checked all possible areas of the right side of the machine with no paper found.

Blew out all sensors in that area.

I have tested the interchange unit sensor, fuser exit sensor, paper full stack sensor, registration sensor - all tested fine in service mode.

All the sensor actuators work fine also.

I have had strange problems with machines in the past that have you replace a fuser to cure a jam in a totaly different area!

The customer has also occasionally removed the fuser to check for the hidden paper which sits on top of the fuser from time to time.

Not sure if this could have caused this problem if he had removed it whilst the copier was switched on or not.

My thoughas for the next step (after boring you guys with it) is to try a working fuser and maybe I/O board?

    What do ya think?

    Much appreciated

Could be a faulty paper feed clutch. Ricoh clutches are not the best quality.

      Thanks Eric1968

The copier won't ever come to. 'Ready' state. At power up this jam condition occurrs. Nothing trying to print or copy.

After opening and closing the doors, the display still shows jam at B!

If you're really sure that all sensors are working correctly, I think the next step is replacing the IOB-Board. Good Luck.

You need to open the small door above the right hand door and open the front cover.

Also, remember the small door below the right door. Check that the door is properly closed, because it's usually broken and doesn't close properly.
