Ricoh MP C4500 upgrade to Fiery

    Hi everybody,

is it possible to Upgrade a standard MP C4500 with a Fiery controller? I know there is a MP C4500_e1 with Fiery but mine is only a MP C4500.

    Thanks a lot

Not to my knowledge, the EFI version are sold preconfigured for Fiery. I don't think you can just add the interface and Fiery to the standard machine. AFAIK there is no Fiery 'option' available for purchase.

Actually, you can add a Fiery; it would be the Fiery E5000.

But may I ask why you would want to do so?

I came from the Canon CLC site... so I prefer the Fiery Controller and Driver.

Did you have more information's about the E-5000 and on which interface is the E-5000 attached?

            Thanks

When you order the RIP, it should come with the interface card and cable.

Once installed, you will need to set the correct SP switches to use the RIP.

Don't forget, once the RIP is attached, you will be forced to use the scanning in the Fiery, as it will disable the built in scanning.

You will also lose the WIM functionality, as well as the ability to fax from your PC, if the machine has the fax option.

We have one MPC4500 with the E5000, it has worked reasonably well, HOWEVER we have never been able to get the auot cal to work, despite all patches and changing of boards and software reloads we always get the same message " cannot recognise kodak grey scale". I am very familiar with this process and have tried all options and new greyscale and every position on the glass - all to no avail. Has anyone seen this problem? I am ordering a ES1000 hand scanner for our branch and i am confident i will be able to calibrtae the machine with this, but the customer wants the easy option and so i continue to try and find an answer.

I know that this is 2 months after your post, but I just had this happen last week.

I called the Ricoh help desk, and they were at a loss, until I told the rep that while prints looked good, there was a fair amount of background when copying. Then the proverbial bells went off.

He had me check the birth certificate, and 3 adjustments were way off.

                    Check SP4685, SP4686, and SP4687, both -001 and -002 settings. Mine weren't even close.

I found out that we had replaced the ITB just a few days earlier, and the tech who did it accidentally put in a few extra zeroes.

Going back to "door specs" did the trick!

Below is a partial screenshot from the birth certificate:

In this thread KenB say "Once installed, you will need to set the correct SP switches to use the RIP".

I have this c4500 with a new E5000 but it does not connect it only says "Loading...". Which would be the correct SP switches to set? Or, what could be wrong with this Fiery?

Someone mentioned that I may have to re-install the SSW on the Fiery. What do you think?

                      Thanks in advance.

Set SP5-985-001 to "0", if you have not done so already.

Don't do it.............. I had 1 E-5000, it was the most unstable Fiery since the E-300 for the SDC 326. I reloaded system and all 20 patches 3 times and it was a POS. Put the standard print scan in for customer and they loved it compared to the Fiery....

I never even hinted that it was reliable, did I?

Tonerbomb is right. The quality of this RIP / copier combination is unstable, unpredictable, and most of all, unfriendly.

I had 2 of these in the field, and had to re-image the RIPs more times than I could count. The worst part is the patches... it actually takes waaay longer to do the patches than anything else. Not to mention the seemingly countless REQUIRED reboots.

                            Don't miss 'em a bit!

I just came across a really clean, low volume C4500, that I'm considering picking up for resale and it has the fiery attached. I have no experience or interest in that part, and judging from the posts here, it sounds like more trouble than it's worth anyway.
My question is: What's required to 'downgrade' the machine to basic network print/scan? Just remove the fiery interface and install a print/scan sd card?
