    MPC2050 - Internal Finisher issues

    Hello there, guys and girls.

I've got a couple of MPC2050s, bot with internal finishers. They randomly - but constantly - either throw out a Jam error (246) - but without any paper on sight, in fact it disappears by just opening and closing the FS - or it throws out an SC error (742, if I remember correctly).

We took out one of the finishers and installed it on a MPC2050 we have at our showroom - and the problem came along with it.

So, does anyone have any experience with these finishers? They're brand new, and I can't see anything out of place on them.

I have one that is nagging me to death. but it seems when I go there, the paper is loaded bad in the cassette. Usually the side guides arnt tight enough. The symtoms are that it will, in the middle of a staple job, just skew one out. I have seen this on the little hang-on finisher too. and most of the time on that one, I have to replace the feed pads. That is the little L shaped jobbies. But on this one, it has been doing it from the beginning. I have ordered the shaft that moves the pads, it looks like the pads are irractic coming down. D429-3150. I really dont know but I had to do something.
Not a lot of feedback on this POS.

Someone at our place had an issue when installing one of these finishers. Apparently there's a guide you have to take out of the exit of the machine in order to make the finisher work correctly. If you miss, it, it does cause jams and certain SC codes. Might be worth a look in the installation instructions for the finisher.

Just went over the installation instructions and there's no such guide - just covers that need to be removed. Thanks for the heads-up though - it was worth checking.

I could not find this (black) guide either, in the installation manual. But when I removed it all the problems were gone!

Does this finisher you're playing with have the punch option in it too? I think the guide I'm on about is listed in the installation instructions for the punch unit.

There was a mandatory firmware update for that finisher also.

I'm not seeing anything since 10/08. V 0.039 "D". Any other info on that?

Same here - Just went and updated all the firmware on the machine (the finisher fw was NOT one of the outdated ones) but it made no difference.

Just to point out that many of the times I get the Jam error is at power on. I've got the FS now completely disassembled on top of the table, but I can't find anything out of place.

Is there any adjustment or calibration to the sensors (to prevent these "ghost jams")? The manual doesn't say anything about that...

Jams at Power on are usually DOOR Sensors. Machine thinks a sensor is flaky. Tech Support told me this when having some Jam at power on for a Savin 9040 Bridge unit. Was giving that jam even while the machine would be running sometimes. Replaced sensor that detects Bridge unit open and fixed it.

Good thought. The top cover switch is one of those killer slide switches.
