MP 171spf fax forwarding to folder

MP 171spf fax forwarding to folder

If the PC (where the folder was created for fax forwarding)is turn off, the incoming fax will not be printed.
there was no option on the parameter list to set this function. Anybody has the knowledge about the setting? thank you.

First off, Don't power down the PC.

Fax farwarding is like Faxing itself. If it cannot get thru then it will wait and try again a while later. After about 5 atempts it should give up and print the file.

    A few choices are yours:

Turn off Bit Sw 11 bit 6, that will allow all received faxes to print and forward. Or, set a FUNCTION KEY to toggle the forwarding feature off (usually F3). This must be set before any information is stored into memory.

Just a thought on fax forwarding... while basically all models can forward to a folder or email address, you don't always have your choice of .tiff or .pdf.

While you have your choice when forwarding to folder on all models, roughly half can't forward to email as a .pdf; on those models it's .tiff only.

The MP171 is one of those (not surprising for a desktop machine, I guess), but there are a lot of much larger machines with the same limitation.

You can scan to .pdf with an MP171, but you can't forward a fax as a .pdf; there is no SP setting to change that. (At least in the US, anyway...)

I have a tech pub (not from the TSC), that speaks to this. Unfortunately, it's against the Marcus of Queensbury Rules to post it, else I would.

                  • 0: TIFF
                  • 1: PDF

Answer It is possible to convert a TIFF file to PDF format when transferring a document received by fax to a PC folder or e-mail address.
Here, we will describe how to change the file format of a document received by fax.
                        Note
                        • It is necessary to have already made the settings for transferring fax documents to a shared folder on a PC or an e-mail address.

                        1. Press the [User Tools/Counter/Inquiry] button.

                        1. Press [Facsimile Features].

                        1. On the [Initial Settings] tab, press [Parameter Setting].

                        1. Press switch [21].

                        1. Press bit [3]. Switch: 21, Bit: 3
File format for files forwarded to e-mail destinations or folder destinations.
                          0: TIFF
                          1: PDF

                        1. Confirm that the value for bit [3] is selected as required, and then press [OK].

                        1. Press [Exit].

                        1. Press [Exit] in [Facsimile Features].

                        1. Press [Exit] in [User Tools/Counter/Inquiry].

In all fairness, even Ricoh has had a tough time with a definitive answer on this subject; I've heard conflicting answers, to say the least.

Ricoh Tech Pub GEN-078 describes which machines can forward to email as a .pdf, and which ones cannot. It is dated July 2, 2009. While I certainly can't guarantee its accuracy, I have no reason to doubt it.

Unfortunately, I cannot post that document here with getting myself into hot water.

Please PM me if you would like further information.

Not when it comes to fax forwarding - that's a different beast.
