    2022 jamming

customer says that it jams on the right hand side of the machine but theres no paper there. when i test it doesnt jam.

ive checked all the tray guides and the are all fine. its hard to say which tray its jamming from because i havent seen it jam. green tray dials are also correct. customer is using one tray for normal paper and another A4 for letterhead.

i checked the smc logging data, original jam history which reads 005 most of the time which is pointing towards the registration sensor.

i was thinking that maybe it could be a feed clutch or a friction pad.

Feed roller/friction pad change is easy and inexpensive. I would try that first.

I have had clutches go bad on these but more often the spring in the back that holds tension on the tray breaks.

Check the plastic lift coupler behind the tray for cracks.

double up on the paper lift spring, if paper doesn't lift to the roller, it will have phantom jams

I had a problem last week with one of these. Tray 3 would randomly jam, swapped over the clutches with tray 4 that I knew worked just fine, replaced the spring, took out the lift coupler and had a good look but no crack in it either.... I finally swapped tray 3 and 4 over..... and would you believe it, problem vanished....?

is the lift coupler attached to the back of the actual tray?
