So this pretty much proves they don't test these things before shipping.

Maybe someone at the hotline would email it to you ?

It looks like they want to distribute it officially on a SD card....I will contact them in the morning but first I wanted to try it here...sometimes is faster

Yeah it's dumb they don't have it on TSC the MP7500 has that firmware on there. Hopefully you get someone that will just email it to you.

Judging by the tech pub, I don't see how this could be done by an "emailable" file; it looks like you have to have an SD card.

Reason being is that you need to set a dip switch on the main controller to read the info from the card. I've never seen any firmware updates that loaded that way.

If it's just an SD card they could send whatever file is on the card via email.

For the normal firmware files you do need to load them that way sometimes depending on how the machine is functioning.

I was thinking that there may be a signature on the card that couldn't be copied to a blank card, along the lines of a java card.

Maybe but if it's just PCL font firmware they have the online for other models so I don't see why it would.

But why would they do it the easy way they do everything they can to make things harder than they need to be

It's almost like the process for using the Boot SD card for the B064, in that you have to flip one of the DIP switches on the controller in order to install it and write the data to the boot portion of the board. I did notice that this one needs to be in Slot 1, rather than the Service Slot. It would seem to me that not only does it update the PCL firmware, but it also affects something else that is resident on the controller, such as the NVRAM, or something of the like.

That's probably why it needs to be done this way, rather than a "normal" firmware update...

Exactly, you are perfectly right. Was not a problem to obtain the PCL font firmware...which is by the way from D025 model (MPC3300)...the problem was to install it. Switch 1-1 on controller must be activated... and the boot SD card must be plugged in option slot so slot 2 on this model. After the update SD card must be disposed accordingly to Ricoh and never used in other model. Any attempt to insert a regular SD card with the firmware file conducted to a SC 672 so the only thing left is to be patient...Next week we will receive the cards.

Why would you wait to get it repaired? Did you buy it out of the back door of somewhere? Ricoh should be replacing it with a new machine if it doesn't work!

Because the new one would do the same thing it sounds like.

They have Printer and PCL and PS and blah, blah, blah posted on the TSC site. I've updated all of them without having to throw switches and I've done it on every model I work on. If this is a single use registered card and you have to throw switches on the board then there's something they're not telling us.

Like they screwed up some firmware much worse than they're admiting, and they obviously didn't test it.
