Excerpted from service manual. I have had poor precess area conditions cause this code. Also have needed to update / reflash firmware or issues with the HDD can come up as an SC990. Just about anything that will confuse the system can result in this code (kernel panic in the *nix vernacular).

    SC990
    Level B
    Software performance error
The software attempted to perform an unexpected operation.

    Software defective
    Internal parameter incorrect
    Insufficient working memory

When this SC occurs, the file name,
address, and data will be stored in
    NVRAM. This information can be
checked by using SP7-403. Note the
above data and the situation in
which this SC occurs. Then report
the data and conditions to your
    technical control center.

SP5832-1 is reformat all! I hate this code! Might need a new hard drive and definately re flash the firmware. A bad drum will cause it if the surface is worn through to the aluminum substrate, but i know you said you replaced it. after that: Controller, NV ram, I hate this code!

Yes, this code is a major PITA. Follow the above suggestions, I would work in the following order - Drum (which you did), reformat/replace HDD, reload firmware, possibly controller or NVram but not as likely. *Hey Bob, This is Tim from Frank's team*

these came from gooses guide but they seem odd

                    Solution Text
Software error - if it will not clear try NVRAM all clear.
Software error - isolate components to check for a pinched wire causing code
Software error - w/filename engrocon.c - clean and reinitialize ID sensor
                    Software error - w/filename engrocon.c - replace drum
Software error - w/filename engrocon.c - try with SP2-208 set to "1" for pixel mode to confirm patch is the problem.
Software error - with fax installed - wrong fax MBU used, FCU is the same either machine.
Software error - w/filename engrocon.c - check/replace door interlock switches (causes no laser for making patch)
Software error - w/filename engrocon.c - correct any copy quality problems first
