Lanier LD328C Error Code SC542 " Reset Procedure" HELP

I have a Lanier LD328C that keeps giving me a Code SC542, Do you know of any reset procedure to see if this is a hardware failure or just a fluke? Do you know what this code means?

Thank you in advance for your help.

SC 542- Heating roller warm-up error

After the main switch is turned on or the cover is closed, the heating roller temperature does not reach the ready temperature within 60 seconds during fusing unit warm-up.

    - Heating roller fusing lamp broken

    - Defective heating roller thermistor

    - Defective BCU

    1. Check if the heating roller thermistor is firmly connected.
    2. Replace the fusing unit.
    3. Replace the BCU.

You will need to reset the SC code through service mode first - sp5-810 to reset. Most likely the thermistor needs to be replaced when this happens. Try the reset and see if it comes to ready, if so then replace the thermistor as the error will probably return in short order.

Get a tech in. It's brutally obvious you don't have a clue.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

            Hit it.

Sorry, not gonna give you the key to Pandora's box. We're sure you'll find out someway, but not here. Just understand you could really muck things up by messing around in service mode.

We had an end user who had a fuser error code & found out how to enter the service mode (didn't want to pay for a call out ). He didn't just reset the error code he cleared out everything !! The fuser error was cleared, but all the settings had been cleared, counters reset to 0 (not meter counter).
It ended up costing him a lot more than the original call out charge !
The best bit....... He did it again a few months later !!
If you are an end user you have an expensive copier, let a trained tech look at it - its cheaper in the long run.

Thanks for the advise. I'm in the Charlotte area and I have searched for days for a Tech who will work on it. Everyone is correct. I AM NOT A TECH.

No local copier company seems to be interested. The machine isnt that old. The company that sold it to me went out of business about 6 months ago. This was my last resort.

                    Thanks anyways.

If you can't get a Lanier dealer try a Ricoh or Savin dealer. I can't believe no one in the Charlotte area will work on it. Perhaps you could put a post in the jobs section looking for someone. I'm sure someone would "moonlight" in the area.

Please don't take our responses personally. Every few days there is someone looking to save a few bucks by getting online and trying to fix it themselves. While I don't question your motives, the economy is tough after all, we don't want to internet our way out of jobs. Again, sorry for the guff.

Are you really worried about that ? Even if end users had the knowledge on how to fix their machines they wouldn't anyway because the way parts and supplies are priced they wouldn't come out ahead by not having a contract. Except for the occasional stand alone fax I don't get anything that is not on a contract.

I'll admit it may be a bit apocalyptic, but it's not impossible. The economy still isn't great in our neck of the woods. Sales are still down, some service contracts have been dropped, raises are not to be found and health insurance keeps getting more expensive. I get a very small percentage of the billable sales and parts replacements that I perform in a month. It's not much, but I can pay for lunch on the days I do a billable call. If I'm a tech in Charlotte and someone tells this customer how to get into service mode, that's money not taken in to the service department and ultimately out of my pocket. I don't expect everyone to understand or agree, but it's my point of view on the matter and why I don't agree with just giving out technical procedures to anyone. I understand it's a forum for knowledge transference, but I don't think it should be given out to just anyone. I think it's just self preservation, but you are entitled to think I'm nuts for thinking that way.

I don't think you are nuts just in my environment if someone resets their own 542 it would save us money because they have a contract anyway. Plus I recently had a fitting break on a pipe if I couldn't get advice from other people I wouldn't have been able to fix it myself and would have had to pay a plumber. I get lots of help from experts in other areas which saves me money. Like auto service especially.

But they would call you for service and then you could talk them through resetting the code over the phone, which I have done and I totally get behind.
