Older Ricoh Firmware Updates without a pcmcia slot?

    Hi all

We're refurbishing some older Ricoh kit to go out in the field 2022' 27's etc and I need to upgrade the firmware to the latest available.

I've done this procedure several times in the past and have the required software/firmware/memory cards etc but i'm coming unstuck with not having a laptop that has a pcmcia port available to load Ricoh MCE onto.

Is there any other way to uprade the firmware on these machines or is there a usb>pcmcia adapter that anyone on here has used succesfully to to this?

I don't really want to have to source an old 2nd laptop just to do firmware uprades on a few machines.

    Cheers
    Simon

There is such a beast but they aren't cheap. Here's one...PCMCIA Card Drive with USB interface
There are others, maybe try e-bay.

You never realize how cheap a professional is until after you let an amateur do it.

Buy a PCMCIA adapter on PCI, insert on the desktop PCI slot. Thats all ! cost you around US 20 dollars

Yeh I saw those and did consider one but it would be nice to be able to upgrade machines in the field too, and I only have 1 pcmcia card so couldn't pre-write all the firmware to take out with me.

Normally I don't reply to old threads, but having noticed that the cheapest solution never was mentioned, I thought I'd add some info for others searching the forum.

Rather than trying to find a USB to PCMCIA adapter at high cost, you can find very inexpensive Expresscard To PCMCIA adapter instead.

Since most modern laptops come with an Expresscard slot, you are able to retain portability.

Hope this helps someone down the road.

Wasn't there a way to do the firmware on the 20 series remotely? I remember doing a couple on the 2060s, but quit because the card was so much faster. Something along the lines of "IP addy/rimap:8080". Maybe not the right port, actually I can't remember if you even had to include the port.
