'add a local printer' is grayed out.

When i tried to set up the printing driver using IP address, in the control panel and printer section,
I need to click on 'add a local printer'.
But sometimes, it is grayed, and i cannot choose this.
So i failed to set up printing network.
Can i activate this add a local printer for printing network setup.
And usually in this case i can not create shared folder in my computer for scan to folder file sharing.
i think this is about network control matter.

I want to know how to change my network envirionment.

    Thank you.

Greyed out = no Admin rights. Is this a satellite office where the IT dept is in another time zone? Good luck getting someone to give you a User/pass with admin rights over the phone.

Ask their IT guy how he wants this machine set up.
If the machine has a hard drive, it is it's own print server and doesn't need to be set up on the server.
Ask him to set you up as a temp power user with user id and password.
Once everything is set-up and working he can delete your ID as if you were never there.
Try to give them the power to decide and they tend to work with you.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

And don't even THINK about getting paid for all the extra time in effort you'll have to put in to do this 30 seconds job, that will now be a 2 hour job.

The Toshiba's have an smb share for scanning and printing. But I have seen networks shutdown this feature and you have to have the customer's IT set it up on the server and then allow users to install via active directory search. I have an account with a bank that the users cannot even access the usb ports or cd rom on the computer. I just call the IT and tell them it is in there hands and have the customer sign my ticket with a note about no network support.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!
