    MP171 SPF No Connectivity

    HI

Anybody ever had a MP171SPF with no connectivity. Green light goes on when i plug in network cable.
I did check the device setting SP and it is on 1. Removed HDD. Still no joy.

    Any ideas?

See on Printer controller where you put the LAN maybe in LAN port you have wire a damaged, or the printer controller is not connect properly.

      Any messages on the display?
      Can you ping it?
possibly mixed up the snm and gateway?
Did you confirm the IP is OK by looking at the settings on a working workstation?

Had one of these NIC interfaces get fried from a surge once. Just like yours. Nic Light lit up, Was able to enter all IP info, but no love for pring or scan or anything Network Based.

Try printing via USB. If that works then the Controller is shot because the NIC is built into it on these models if I recall.

I have had on some older machines (2232c) that if the network card looks bad, reflash it even if the firmware is up to date. Worth a try...

Yep sounds like a board but if it were me I would connect to it with a crossover and laptop first.

Had the same issue on an 171spf install about 12 months ago, went through every thing twice, spent hours on the phone to the customers IT, reloading firmware and talking to ricoh tech support, I even got sent a replacement controller board to swap in, but in the end it turned out to be a setting.

changed IEEE802.IX AUTH (ETHERNET) to INACTIVE, (cant remember where this is exactly, somewhere under user tools)

after that it worked like a charm.

Sounds like Neergish might have a solution for you. Might be related but if that doesn't work try manually locking in the LAN speed. I don't want to steal another guy's thunder, but KenB said he had to do that before. I guess his Gigabit ethernet cards couldn't auto-negotiate the speed.

Had this also on an MPC2500, just a crap cable. Must have been either mis-wired or only an issue with one pair or something like that.

Awesomeness. That seem to do the trick.

                        Thanks Dude

From what I can gather IEEE802.IX AUTH has something to do with wireless communication. According to the "Network and Systems Settings Guide" this should be set to inactive by default, perhaps the problem only occurs when it is set to active and there isn't a wireless card installed into the machine. The 171 I had issue with was brand new out of the box, I'm guessing that the setting may have been changed from default whilst testing communication modes at the factory. A lot of supposition I know, but suffice to say that after my adventures last year it is now something I check everytime I run up one of these boxes.
