PCL6 Print Driver Info? RPCS info?

I looked around on the TSC website and couldn't find this, but no telling how they worded it.

Anyone seen a white paper or guide to all the features in the PCL6 and RPCS Drivers? I can install them fine, but some of the things are named vaugely.
I installed a Savin 9240 today and the PCL6 driver was radically changed.

Bin PCL6, it's a crock of shit. It causes no end of problems with non-Microsoft applications. I recommend to customers that they use PCL5, then snigger under my breath when they've installed 6 and can't use it. With regard to the white paper, I'll have a nosey about and see what I can find for you.

RPCS one isn't much use, but it's a start.

Officially as per Ricoh US the RPCS driver is being phased out in favour of PCL and PS. It really too bad as I've had lot of times where RPCS is the driver that works best and gives more control over printed output.

We'vebeen using the PCL5 driver more. It seems to work well with different applications, although i agrre, the RPCS has more functionality.

Me too. PCL for most things, RPCS seems to do color better.

For the past year or so, Ive had much better luck with the PCL6 drivers.

I've had Word documents that wouldn't print images with PCL5, but PCL6 worked just fine.

PCL5 is still being offered basically for legacy apps which don't handle PCL6 well.

My understanding is that all the engineering is being directed at the PCL6, so I doubt that there will be many more improvements made to the PCL5.

I guess there's not that much of a choice - PS is an option, RPCS is being discontinued (as mentioned), and even the mini drivers are going bye-bye.

Additionally, there has been a lot more attention paid to the universal PCL6 and PS drivers over the dedicated ones.

I always just install the PCL5 I get too many problems with the PCL6. I think customers only choose PCL6 because of it has a bigger number so it must be better syndrome. Just had one yesterday even.

I'll second TonerMunkeh, PCL6 doesn't work well with non-MS software.
But I kinda agree with KenB, as long as they use MS-Office suite it works well and even offers higher resolution 1200DPI.

I'd like to see any white papers on them as well. It isn't much, but have you ever clicked on the driver description, on the download page? One thing Ricoh did right was putting a brief description of the driver and version info.

What I can't understand is why they are phasing out some drivers. I've don't have a problem with PCL6 Except in 3 cases.

One was an old MS Access 2000 Database. Ended up using an old HP Laserjet4 Driver or something for that.

Another was an Auto parts Program at a Ford Dealership. PCL5 Fixed that.

One was some weird program. Turned out ONLY the MINI-DRIVER Fixed it.

So phasing out drivers is Ridiculous.

Not to mention Most of my customers that use a BOOKLET FINISHER have to use the RPCS Driver. The Booklet Functions just don't work right in the PCL6. At least not on C3535/C4545/C4040/C5050 they don't.

And the Universal Print drivers.. Hogwash. I've had nothing but printing problems with them. Maybe the newer versions work better than when they came out.
