    Jams in LCIT 5030 on a Pro1357ex

    HI there.
I've been having an ongoing fault with this unit on a Pro 1357ex. Tray 5 will randomly throw up jams, not always the same jam code, but always relating to tray 5. For example. 07, 14, 57. I've had the unit out and cannot see anything out of the ordinary. I have recently replaced the the feed roller set, but the problem persists. The tray has fed just over 333000 pages. Going by the jam codes, the paper seems to not leave the tray or leave the tray and not make the transport sensor.
So I'm fresh out of ideas. Has anyone else had any issues regarding this problem.

    Cheers and many thanks

Not to overlook the simple things, I have an 1106 in a print shop where they constantly change paper sizes and they will get the thumb screws in the wrong holes to where the guides may be too tight when paper is in raised position.

      Hi Coptech,
I'm not aware that they change the paper size in any of those trays, but you never know. I will have a look at this next time I'm in there.

      Thanks

Check the metal bracket holding 2 sensors just in front of the pickup roller. this can get bent (rotated) as the tray is pulled out and can cause random jams or paper height / paper end detection errors.

I popped into the customer on Friday and swapped feed units 4 and 5 around. I will now wait to see if the fault has moved with the feed unit or not. That'll help narrow down my field of choices....
          Cheers

I got a call on this machine today with jams in B when printing from tray 5. I observed the machine for a while and noted that whilst feeding card, as well as 80gsm paper, from tray 5 that very occasionally it will grab 5 or so pieces of paper and jam at the registration in the machine. I don't think this is related to the fault I was having above, as this would show the jam in tray 5, where as this is shown at registration.

So I guess I'm asking if anyone has seen something similar to this on their machines, it would be worth your while to browse through the entries above as I have changed a few things up to this point. I have ordered a new Torque limiter , which I will replace along with the feed roller set. This machine has challenged me from day one, in one for or another......

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
            Many thanks as always

Torque limiters are a common problem with these. I get multi feeding or no feed with a tear in the center of the top sheet in the paper tray. I had one a torque limiter didn't fix so I replaced the feed head that that fixed it. There are no motors or clutches on the feed heads so I don't know what would have failed. Maybe there is a one way in them I didn't look closely just wanted it fixed.

After clearing my head and having a think yesterday, I realised that the jam code 57 is a lag feed in tray 5, so my info wasn't exactely accurate, sorry. But still, I'm left wondering if I have a problem with late feeding or is the paper struggling through the seperation area, because it doesn't seperate the paper properly? Or even through the gripper rollers for that matter. I spent the afternoon studying the opperation of this feed unit and nothing seems to be obvious to me.........I'm twisting my brian in knots thinking about it.

                  Jam from LCIT

This Jam Problem stands from Pro Series till now
                  It is a Firmwareproblem
You have to get a special written File to stop this one
I have 6 Machines and all have the same Problems before

I look first all the Mechanics Roller Torpues,
                  Electric Sensors Harness Conectors
The Jam allready comes back Mostely it was Jam 057 (Paper to late)
After install the new Firmware i never seen this Problem

Thanks for that Flo, how do I get hold of this firmware version? Is it through Ricoh themselves. I'd definitely give this a go.

                    Cheers

                          Update.......

I thought, as I have a minute, I'd update this thread. After countless visits to this machine, I finally realised that there was something missing in two of the LCIT Trays. There should be a little silicon 'dangley' bit hanging down behind the paper in the tray to stop the paper from kicking back and causing a none feed. I noticed that sometimes the paper would kick back and result in a none feed or a multi feed, depending on what mood the machine was in that day! I moved the last remaining 'dangley thing' into tray 5 and ordered some spares. By the time I returned the next day, they had broken the last one. So I decided to take drastic action, I scrounged around for some long bolts and managed to find some that were a perfect fit in length and thread type. I slipped those suckers in there and let the have a go with them.

To date, everything still seems to be working fine. At a recent visit for an unrelated problem, they thought they were still having some problems with this jam, but I can find nothing in the Logging Data to support this claim. So I'll keep an eye on the situation and see how we go........
