Don't know!!! Keepin' it simple.
The tech was going to do this but when I mentioned that this issue occurs when scanning to PDF he held off. He's going to send some of our flawed copies to their engineers and see what they come up with. Also when I mentioned that if you make 100 copies of a document it some times shows up on all copies exactly the same, implying it has something to do with the scanning process.

He checked the lamp harness and some other connections but it still did it right after.

We've been setting the flawed pages to the side and almost have a reem of paper worth of junk. This gets pretty annoying when you have a stapled copy job of 150 pages and there are a few of these streaked copies right in the middle.

No the water cooler is on the opposite side of the office

The copier is just outside my office, I can see it through the window and have never seen anyone leaning on it. The ADF seems to be okay.

I think, if the scanner housing would be bent, the error would comre up continouesly, not per accident.
if you are sure, that it is no scanner lamp problem, i would suggest you to change the SDRAM-DIMM against known good ones, maybe there is some issue regarding writing and reading to memory

well if it had been permanently i would say dirt in the optics, but this looks like an image processing issue. i would clear memory in scanner and checked hdd for bad sectors..

A new lamp is on the way. The tech showed some examples of what's happeing to his collegues and they think it's a flickering bulb. It should be here in the next few days. We shall see!

well that's possible, but the scanner does a white level calibration (agc) (calibrating ccd element so every pixel has the same output voltage) it is calibrated for every time you use the scanner. So a flickering bulb should cause a sc 101,141 or 142..

It's relatively common on Sharp, Cougars specifically. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
