Could be drum, possibly laser. When's the last time it had a FULL PCU rebuid?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Are the images being printed lef or sef? If sef, then I'm going to suggest that it looks like uneven transfer, as the bad print is weak on the side facing the rear of the drum. Check the front and rear pressure on the transfer roller. If printing lef, then it looks like it may be losing drum ground (usually the bearing holder for the drum shaft).

Can you confirm what direction the paper is being fed, Long Edge First (portrait) or Short Edge First (landscape). Looking at your samples, if feeding short edge first then it looks like uneven transfer pressure. If feeding long edge first, it appears to be losing drum ground through the drum shaft bearing/bearing holder. Do a continuity check from the shaft to the frame and note the resistance, should be under a couple of ohms (rotate the shaft as you measure, you might notice severe fluctuation).

Generally I don't find that to be a problem, but you should break it down and clean everything and get it to rotate as freely as possible. With a poor drum ground (resistance is high but not open, the first copy/print may be good but the drum charge will not dissipate completely for subsequent images following. It will discharge too slowly which is why the first copy looks good, it has time to go to neutral from the previous job. But multiple prints, there is not enough time for the charge to dissipate. I would replace the drum shaft and drum shaft holder.
