Could be the HDD's stalling out. When it does it, can you see the option for printing and scanning in user tools and SP modes? Try formatting the HDD and reseating the memory DIMM's.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

I'd go for HDD first, memory DIMM's second, controller board third.

Before ANY of that Perhaps reload the FIRMWARE? I've had that fix this issue. Has the MFP received any SC 990, SC991?

Another thing to try id re-indexing your HDD. have done this to around 40 HDD's and have not had anymore problems.

I thought of that too, but it wouldn't make sense that the print and scan buttons disappear from user tools and SP modes. By the way - I meant reformat the HDD and reseat the DIMM's, not replace them.

you mean formatting the hdd? i have tried formatting the hdd already. today i went back to replace the hdd and did not make a difference, even disconnecting it. i remember coming across a sc990 once but that never re appeared again.

how do i rule out its not the customers network?

hook it up to your laptop and see if you still have the problem

Connect your laptop to it via a crossover cable and batter a load of prints at it.

Could possibly be a duplicate IP being used...try changing IP of copier if other tests have failed

it was the memory dimm on the controller board that kept on failing. replaced dimm and fixed.

when i first got there i replaced the printer card first then switched the machine on. no change. so i then swapped the memory dimm that sits at the top of the controller board and that worked the first time i switched the machine on. and to confirm it was the memory dimm, i put the old memorydimm back in and when i switched the machine on, the printer and scanner wouldnt work.

thanks to everyone who tried to help
