I heard there is a way to ' remote' upgrade- not using sd card, which apparently is a preferred method (ethernet, usb?)
How do I save existing settings/firmware before I go into the rabbit hole of experimenting?
This may help. Never mind, I screwed up the attachment. Teebee probably sent you what I was trying to post.

        hope that helps
JUST print SP5990-5! Only shows the firmware, but with more detail and is much clearer!!

thanks for the input. I CAN NOT log in to anything, the only thing I have is error sp672. There is no way to print anything from the machine. I tried the trick with open door, nothing.
Is there a way of logging into the machine via ethernet or usb? Or copy existing firmware to sd card?

Let me know if the info I sent you is clear enough. Again, you need to correct the SC error first. The boot SD card might be the option you need to recover from the SC672. Logging in with a web browser is simply typing in the device IP to get to the WIM home page then log in as administrator with "admin" as login and no password (default settings, if it doesn't work then you have to do more work to get in). From there you can update the firmware using the RFU type, per the instructions I sent.

If you can't LOG IN anymore, looks like your Controller Board has been toasted...

For some reason the machine is up and running; I've been monkeying aroud the connectors - reseating them all - and machine does boot up.
However, I get error SC501 which tells me tandem tray is not working. I can see paper being moved from left side to the right, but then after a short audible attempt - the tray on right isn't moving, but I can hear the noise from the motor. Message on display tells me to reset the tray, and it doesn't go anywhere...
