    ricoh 1045 sc819

Hi guys, i have been to a machine today with sc819, (kernel problem it says in the manual) disconnected the hdd and it worked ewith limited functionality. My question is this: Is it best to update the firmware first then re connect the hdd to see if it recovers (firmware mentions sc819) or to swop the hdd?

A generic harddrive replacement is inexpensive so I would just replace it then update the firmware.

Thanks for the rapid response daz, does it have to be a 20 gig hdd? and also will the stamp data need to be put back in this machine after hdd replacement?

As long as it's equal or larger in capacity than the harddrive you take out it should work fine.
In special service mode just excute SP 4911-001 and reboot when it says complete.

        Job done.

          Hi Leo
You could try putting the hard drive in a PC or a caddy and format it. This has worked many times for me.
If you format it or replace it you will need to download stamp data and load it onto the drive.

If you put it in a pc or caddy, download and run the disk manufacturer disk utilities on the drive. Also size does matter sort of. Some of the older machines won't see the larger drives unless you set the drive jumpers to limit the drive size(ie. 30gb). This jumper info will come with the drive, but ricoh won't tell U this.
