    MP161 freezes

    Hi,

1 month ago i sold one mp161 with 9000 copies and today the client fone me becouse he turn on the machine and makes few copies and after that the machine freezes completly. . To make copies again he needs to turn off and turn on again. i check all buttons and all are fine... what can cause this kind of problem!? the machine is not conected in network... they only use to make copies and to recieve fax.

Is the IU almost empty of toner? Perhaps a memory issue? Maybe update the firmware. Is there a surge protector/power filter on it? I have a few of these in-shop. Only issuses I've had was bad main boards(blocks on the display only)...

there is no signal of tonner..the machine is pluged direct, dont have any protector. this one you turn on and everything is fine but after few minutes the machine freezes.

When you say "freezes", do you mean you still have a display but you cant copy? Is the Print button red or green at that time.?

Print out the saved data(saved fax numbers and such). Then see if there's a default reset, or an all memory clear that you can do. Remove any extended memory that may be installed (just for testing/troubleshooting), there may be a problem with it causing it to freeze. Unplug what ever you can(ADF, extra cassettes) to eliminate those as an issue. I know it sounds like an over kill, like how can an ADF cause a freezing issue?! lol, it most likely won't, but I like to be sure with off the wall issues like this. Does it have an HDD? I don't think they do, but don't recall.

SC982 means : Localization Error. Fill in your location with SP5-807 (2=North America, 3=Europe, 5=Asia, 6=China. This error can also occur when you choose a display language that is inconsistent with the model.

A defective NVRAM can also be the cause.

I would check if the machine is set to Europe. You can backup the engine settings to an SD-card and perform a memory all clear. After that reload the settings from the SD-card to the machine. If that doesn't work, I think you have to replace the NVRAM.

Use an SD-card smaller than 1 GB. I always use 512MB. About the partnumber, I can't find it either in the manuals. If I can get it I'll let you know.
