I was going to post this question, until I figured it out while reading through the service manual.
I was working on a Ricoh Aficio MP2000 that the customer complained of poor registration on the second side when duplexing onto legal sheets. I removed the side door and cleaned the rollers, guide plates and pin clutches. When I reinstalled the side door to test it out, I found that I had no fuser drive.
I sweated bullets and bled on that copier for about an hour trying to figure out what I had done to cause this problem since the fuser drive worked fine before I got there. I actually went so far as to install a stiffer spring on the Drive Release Solenoid. That got it to work again, but I hate jury rigging a machine.
When I got back to the shop I poured through the service manual regarding the fuser drive and the Drive Release Solenoid. That is when it dawned on me. There is a plastic cover that goes over the Duplex Transport Motor on the side door. When I was testing I had not reinstalled this cover. There is a tab on that cover that helps to engage the Drive Release Solenoid, so if you operate the machine with that cover removed you will have no fuser drive... DOH! That cost me over an hour of sweat and blood...
