[Misc] How to Format or Clear HDD on Ricoh 1027?

We are primarily a Canon dealer, but are upgrading an account with a Ricoh (1027) machine. The customer wishes for the contents of the HDD to be cleared. Can somebody inform me of the process to do so?

    Thanks in advance!!

    SP4, 911 etc.

    Hi,

Enter service program mode 4 (SP4), and enter 911.
Select the desired format option, and press execute.

Remember to turn the main power switch off and on again when it's done.

    1. All Initializes the entire hard disk.
    2. Image Files Initializes documents stored in document server mode,
stamp print data, scanner send data, fax send data.
    3. NetFiles Initializes network file application thumbnail images.
    4. Job Log Initializes job logging data (for Poplar server) DFU
    5. Printer Fonts Initializes printer fonts and stored fonts.

Hope that is what you were asking for.
There is also an option to take the drive out, and connect it to a computer - if you want to use special software that formats the drive, add information and formats the drive again...for those that are paranoid
We have customers that want the physical drive after the machine is replaced.

Thanks for the replay & that's what i was looking for. Now for the question: How do you enter service program mode 4 (SP4)? We do not service Ricoh, so we have no knowledge of their svc mode operations.

      Thanks Again!!

I would try using the search function on this forum. I'm sure SOMEBODY has released that information at one time or another.

Easy way, take the HDD out of the machine and leave it with the customer. Their problem then.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

Please note: even if you format the HDD on ANY copier using the internal tools it does not wipe the data - just resets the file structure, the image data is still there, just much more difficult to reassemble.

To do the job right, you need to install Ricoh's DOSS kit and force a wipe from the machine, Pull the drive and do a DOD or NSA wipe with the right software from your laptop and a adapter cable, Physically destroy the drive (heat it to 1500 Deg F for an hour), or as noted above leave the drive with the customer.
