[CQ] Ricoh 1224 32 Blurred image (Black) when colour copying or printing

    Hi All,

I have a problem with a ricoh 1224 (Copy Quality) when making colour copies the leading edge is blurred intermitant.
It is the black that is blurred all colours are fine.
if you make individual copies e.g just black on its own they are fine same when you do cyan, magenta and yellow.

I have attached a copy of the problem.

    Any help please

Looks like a bad Development Clutch (Black).

The ITB cleaning unit is slow to lift off the belt causing the start of the black image to be smeared. You could try replacing the lift clutch, but normally this does not work and replacing the complete transport bracket fixes the problem (P/No. B0514803).
As a test try removing the two tension springs off the ITB cleaning unit and see it the fault goes away. This will prove if the lift timing is at fault. You can't leave it like this as poor cleaning will result.

Ditto, the bracket assy will fix it.

Also try the auto clean adjust in user tools / maintenance. Take a white A3 copy straight afterwards, if you see the I.D patches thats a sure sign of the clutches in the drive assy being faulty.

If changing the drive unit, be VERY careful of the leads from the two fans on the I O Board (One above, one below) I had a tech swap the leads and it blew the PCB!
