    3228c Not Adding Black Toner

Picked up a new customer this morning. So I went out and the black cartridge is full but no toner is getting INTO the dev.

I vacuumed out the toner hose and made sure it was free and unclogged.

I put it back together and it still no toner getting into the dev.

I even taped the toner hole on the dev back to see if it was something weird there.

Is that the pump that sits above the dev on the rear frame?

        Yup

Not really a pump, more than a magnetic clutch attached to a cork screw.
But it sucks (attracts) the toner up the tube.

The clutch has probably failed, hence the cork screw is not turning.

            It's not to bad.

You will need to swing the controller box out and partially strip down the gear box to gain access to the wire harness for the pumps clutch and the small white plastic rear bushing.
(But it's pretty easy just take your time).
Everything else is done from the front of the machine.

Yeah - take care not loosing that rear bushing^^

Besides that the BK one it's indeed not the worst case among the toner pumps (replacing the magenta pump is way worse iirc).

Is it possible that Non-OEM toner could have caused this? The reason I asked is because I ran across a 22 series machine yesterday with apparently the same problem and they had aftermarket toner in the machine.

All the devs were pretty overtoned but then the color units had 60K on them.

turn outs. lol. they had smooshed in the top of the K toner pipe (the one where the toner goes in from the cartridge.)

I had taken off the hose and watched it pump out toner, and toner was being pumped out. Apparently not enough tho.

So I happened to have had another toner hopper with me and it worked!

Mercifully I didn't have to replace the "toner attraction pump". Merry Christmas to me! Ho Ho Ho!
