    Ricoh 2045e grey background

Got a ricoh 2045e with the gray background when copying. I can still see the copied original image but everything is gray around. The problem comes and goes.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you all.

Basic question...how many copies since the developer was last changed? Drum?

this sounds like PM time to me. clean and rebuild the pcu, change the developer, making sure to thoroughly clean the mag roller, and check the fuser, and possibly rebuild it at the same time. also, empty the waste toner from the transfer unit and replace the transfer belt and blade.

if it comes and goes it could be a grounding problem with the drum or dv. Could also be due for a pm

good question for a start - it would be also interesting to know if the machine is running with original ricoh pm parts and toner.

              Hi Guys,
Thanks for the suggestions, I think the machine needs PM for sure. What are the codes for the PM? Is it just the DV and the Drum + Blade?

              THX.

What's your mag roller & Dev seal like, try cleaning any build up and replace the seal if it is curled upwards this can scrap the patch that is developed on the drum and cause all sorts of toning related problems.
                    Cheers

its a common problem for the 2045 machines, stain on the magnetic roller could cause gray background, but for a start it will gives you an uneven copies, yup, the developer might last you at least 300,000 copies.. correct me if l'm wrong

Dev change at 80k, seen it pushed to 100k, copy quality suffers and machines 150K, dev pukes all over, nasty stuff.
