MPC 2500 Lost all Copier login settings and Fax Qucik Dial.

Any body had a problem with an MPC2500 losing all the User Login Settings and Fax Quick dail ? Users orginal login passwords don't work and all Fax Quick dials and Scan to email settings have gone. We can only relate this fault to a thunder storm that happend four days before the fault was reported. Surely this would not be the case. This is a busy customer. They would have noticed before now.... Fax works , copier works, scan to email works fine, just all the settings are zero. They have not defaulted back to normal passwords either, as we cannot login in with normal admin accounts etc.

The address book is common to all system functions, Scan to folder, Scan to email, User Codes, Fax address book. You said that "scan to email settings have gone" and then that "scan to email works fine" so I am a bit confused. Can you go to UT, SS, Admin Tools, Addy Book MGT? (use WIM if you can) Are the entries all gone? If some entries exist and some do not, I would say that a human being was playing in the address book and caused this. (But they will never admit to that) In my experience, the address book is either intact or completely wiped out.

      Re: Human fault.
I believe you are correct with this one.
The machine is in perfect working order except the address book is gone , along with all the normal user login password, including our normal supervisor login . So it smells of someone playing. I said to the customer your I.T. will have to fix it.

Sounds like the HDD has packed up, especially if you've lost the address book. Was there really a lightning strike or has the customer been switching off the machine without putting it to sleep first? Are functions like duplex and rotate sort available on the ops panel? If so, the HDD is okay. Could be the controller board's gone down or the NVram has been corrupted.

          Re : Controller & H/D
We are onto that train of thought now. I feel it is the controller or H/D getting slow to read.
We did a firmware update today and nothing really changed. We had to remove the SD cards from the slots because machine took
forever to initialise. Firmware when in fine. What is the safest way to clear the admin and user login passwords with out having
to do a system clear/all ? Our supervisor login modes have gone as well.

          Re :Lighting Strike.
The problem appeared 4 days after the storm so it may, or may not, be related. At this stag you could be right with the customer switching the machine off/on . One customer wanted to take an axe to the machine from the first day of install. Ignorance is bliss...

You can't clear the admin passwords on this machine without replacing the controller NVram. I don't think the SD cards would have stopped the machine booting quickly unless the controller board and / or SD cards have been damaged. I think it would be an idea to order a controller, NVram, new SD cards and HDD. I don't think there's any other way you will be able to fix this machine so it will be fully functional and reliable.

Hi Neo, kindly try this go to SP mode 5-801-011 look for NCS this will initialize the system default and interface settings, including IP address, Admin, Webstatus monitor settings and Telnet settings. Then reboot the machine and log-in as (admin - password)
              .

SP 7810 will reset your admin password to default without clearing anything else. Login and check the address book.

TonerMunkeh is correct, sp7810 is for the older mfp's that utilized a key op code. The MPC2500 has Administrator Management which requires login and password. If the default Supervisor is changed and no one knows what it is, then the NVram has to be replaced as stated.
