    ricoh aficio 2228C printing problems

    Hy guys

I`we formatted my 2228C 2 HDD`s on my PC after some starting problems. After PC format I did SP 5 832 001 on the copier. Problems with slow startup seems to be solved. But I can`t use the printer function now. The SP 1 103 001 is working.

    Could anyone help pls! ?

    Thx alot!

But you can use the document server button? If the the HDD array should work correctly.

Check if the NIB is disabled via SP. Dunno the exactly SP Number right now (probably within Copy SP5xxx or SP7xxx) but it should be listed in the Non Default SMC page wich you can find behind the paper jam instructions in the front door.

That's good - I'm quite shure that this is related to the SP setting i've mentioned. I think it's called "Onboard device setting" or something like that.

You can't use the printer function at all? Do you have printer SP and printer settings available?

Print a NIB summary report and it will tell you what network problems failed.
            Copier Sp mode..Mode or 5...group down....page up...sp print...NIB output.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

The printer SP is available. But it takes me a day long to print any SP report. Do U think HDD`s must be changed?

Have you got lights on the network card? Can you ping the IP address? Check the IP address too, in case it has lost it

NETW card leds ok. I can see the card via pinging the adress. 1 startups out of 10 I can use all the functions (copy, print, scan) but I`m getting the PLEASE WAIT message again and again for 10-15 min. Maybe a firm update is needed. what do U think?

The problem started a few days ago. I was getting the PLEASE WAIT message on screen with the red service led and the copier blocked in this position. I could hear the HDD working. I removed the HDD`s and the copy function worked OK.
                      I assumed the HDD`s

'Please wait' is normally linked to bad HDD(s) or a HDD related problem.

Disconnect the HDDs and power up and see if the printer module loads.
Some features are going to be missing (duplex copying, scanning limited to TWAIN) but there should be no more lag in accessing any of the features, SP mode etc.
If that's the case then it will at least confirm it's a HDD issue.

Also I didn't think you could use generic HDD replacements on this model?
Aren't they are clipped / pre-formatted to 40Gb even though they are 80Gb drives so the IDE controller can see them? (could be wrong).

I assumed the HDD`s are the problem. So I did a Low Level Format on my PC after that I did an SP HDD format. After this printing was usable for a few times. But now I`m facing the same problem...PLEASE WAIT screen with service led. I did no firm update.
