sorry, the image is not really blurred, it is two distinct images overlayed with a 1/2mm offset in the feed direction. this occurs only in the black mode. the full colour mode prints are perfect even if its just black text.

i have added a link to the image http://www.bmss.ca/incoming/20101122141233632.pdf

Ok, now I see. In this case then it looks like a misalignment of the lasers. Black uses a dual beam laser and color only one so it would be in the LD unit. Do a beam pitch adjustment for both 600dpi and 1200 dpi, that may correct it. If it doesn't work, consider replacing the Black LD unit or the entire laser assembly.
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      4. Print out the following test pattern (Cross Stitch M) with SP5-997.
      5. Check these test patterns. Vertical black strips show if the laser beam pitch is
      not correct.
      • Cross-stitch pattern: The thin lines should be of uniform thickness (no
striping effect should show on the printout).
      6. Adjust the laser beam pitch values in SP2-109-2 and 3 until the section of the
      printout [A] is correct.

thanks teebee, i made it back to the customer with the 3245c and after some testing found that adjusting the 600 dpi was the only one to make a difference. i had to push it from 42 to 98( max) to make it line up. i'm not comfortable with this because i don't know what caused it, but its working for now.
