Rioch Af1018 digital copiers dev gears

anyone come across excessive wear on dev tank gears in machines using katun toners and also toner hopper issues on machines with relatively low volumes.

Yeah, we have seen a few of the 18's dev gears die off like you mention. Two things can cause it - Dev spilled over into the cavity when dev was changed/added or the bearing that the dev auger shaft runs thorough is worn out.

I, personally, have rebuilt a lot of these units. Check your parts catalog for the part numbers of the gears and change all of them. Even the ones up in the drum unit that come into contact with the lower dev housing gears. There are three different gears, so make sure you order the correct ones. The two black ones look the same, but are slightly different. Also replace the two bearings inside the dev casing on the drive side of the unit. That or swap the bearings around from the drive side to the non-drive side (I have done this, with success, when I did not have the bearings with me). Or, better yet... replace the whole lower housing and the two gears in the drum section.

As for the toner hopper issues... not sure. What sort of problems are you seeing?

The first law states that energy is conserved: The change in the internal energy is equal to the amount added by heating minus the amount lost by doing work on the environment.

There is a flange that will crack and break on the lower housing that contributes to this problem. Replace the lower half if this keeps reoccurring. It comes with the lower gears and augers and bushings.
