    SC 542-548

I've been having some problems with these codes on Ricoh 1035 and 2035. Can usually resert yet when it happens again whether right away or a day later the lower roller sleeve has melted to upper roller. Put another unit in copier and everything ok. checked problem fuser out and replaced thermistors still have same problem. any thoughts???
    Thanks!!!

You are obviously getting thermal run-away.

[Assumed you have replaced the thermistors with the correct thermal rated ones. ]

Are the fuser heater lamps bent/warped from previous thermal runaway ?
If the lamps are warped you could be running more temperature closer to the side that is melting the sleeve.

Replace the lamps anyway as you could be getting hot spots in the lamps from dirt or grease. Similarly an ordinary house light bulb will burn the brightest just before it blows.

        Hi tcypy1961,

There are a couple of things to check here,

Make sure that the thermistors are the right way up, as you can put these in the wrong way up, Check that the pins are not bent in the connectors that the thermistors plug into (the red and white connectors on the fuser), I have previously had SC542 if one of the 2 lamps has blown, also meter out the thermoswitches (there are 4 installed next to the 2 thermistors on the fuser), I have also had problems with the connector at the back of the machine where the fuser slides along the rail into the main body. I also seem to remember there being a mention of SC542 in one of the firmware releases (it's been a few years, can't really remember), so might be worth checking that is up to date.

Something to be going on with...... My money is on either poor thermistor connection, blown lamp or thermal switch.

Correct Part numbers for the 1035/1045 are as follows,

        AW10 0052 - Thermistor Centre
        AW10 0053 - Thermistor Rear
        A231 4100 - Thermofuse
        AX44 0186 - Fusing Lamp.

I don't suppose it is possible to swap the fusing unit with another machine that you know works to rule out the fuser unit being the issue?

        Hope this helps.

        Cheers

On the AF1035 there was a problem with the red double ended connectors that the thermistors plug into. Check for corrosion on the pins. Scratch pins with a blade and refit or change connectors.

Also the "plate" on which the thermistors sit (B004 4087) can break down, causing codes
