Paper Skewing at registration - af1015/18

Was sent to a job to on a 1018 (they had been using generic toner so required a full PM) the machine was also intermittently skewing at the registration roller. Found the problem to be a broken front bushing part AA08 0342, the hook where the spring hangs on to provide pressure had broken off.

Back at the shop I was setting up another 1018 for donation to a sporting club so I thought I'd borrow its registration bushing until I could get one in, but low and behold the same thing was broken.

Is this a common problem with these machines?

As it is a common part to the 2020 and MP2000s I will certainly be adding a few to my car stock.

I've seen it several times, not a common problem but worth carrying the part. also be careful not to knock the rear bushing out when replacing the front one, this can turn a 10 minute job into an hour of frustration.

+1 on not disturbing the rear reg roller bushing and what is the secret to reinstalling the right front carrying handle?
I'm out of patience by then and take the spare parts with me.

        Seen this more than once.
I put a couple of tie wraps on the front and rear of both reg rollers.
Tight in the back and loose in the front.
It keeps the top shaft from just falling back and dropping the rear.

The new bushings are stonger, so I would get enough to replace them at the next PM.
Done right it only takes a few minutes and will save a DAD (down and dead )call later on.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Im with nmfaxman, but I also remove the front lift completely and put the spring in with a curved set of medium hemostats. Usually a 30 to 40 min job.

Tie wraps sound like a good idea.
            I'll try that.

            Thank you
