It does not indicate that it is in any of the trays but it may be I was in a rush.
All it indicates is in the vertical area.

check that dev has not leaked into feed stations clutches/gears from leaking dev seals, will cause jams in vertical transport.

Knacked registration mylars can also cause this. How many has the machine done?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

First find out from which papertray you have jams. J003 sounds like tray 1 for me.. but check anyway.

If you have no jams from tray 2 and 3, there is something wrong/out of spec in the paper feed mechanism in tray 1.

See if you can swap the mechanism from tray 2 too tray 1 and test again. If tray 1 works fine now .. it is in the paper feed mechanism that was in tray 1. I assume you've checked/replaced the paper feed rollers.
If I remember correctly there is no paper feed clutch on this model.
There is a paper registration clutch, but that will result in jams from all trays.
There is torque limiters in the separation roller, but will only lead to multiple feeds at once.
(I always vaccum out the dust from the "paper dust tray" over/next to the reg roller also).

so try a swap and see if it works with another paper feed unit. Then you can study the feed unit more in detail, once it is out too.
