    MP2550 cassette 1 jamming

Swapped lift and feed units, new friction pads and rollers. Swapped trays and sensors.
Machine still jams if you fill the tray. 100 sheets a4 or less and no problem. More than 100 sheets and the page wont even feed out of the cassette. Really strange fault, Jam is logged as tray 1 feed. Changed or swapped everything I can think of. Any help pls.

Did you inspect what the parts catalogue calls the "rising unit"? it's part of the tray lift mechanism. what somtimes happens is the white plastic part that the that the shaft in the tray fits into gets cracked and will display the symptons you are experiencing. P/N D010 2780

I has to be adjusted through SP modes, please check the manual. It is explained how to adjust the lift timing either tray 1 or tray 2. Hope this helps.

check the paper size detector sensor behind the tray. remove back cover of machine, i've seen these sensors get knocked out of place. it adjusts tray lift depending on width of paper.

I have had to modify the spring in back that lifts the tray to have more tension. I have had to do this on some of the machines in this family like the 3030.

on the tray the guide that holds the paper if a little tight on the paper brings the problem realese so that there's space and test

See if unlpugging the paper size sensors on the frame of the machine behind the tray and manually entering the paper size and orientation in User Tools clears the problem up. I had a lot of these in dirty environments where the sensors would get knocked out of place or get so dirty that thy would read the wrong size, or no size.

Try changing the cassette to A4R. If it feeds with a full tray of paper then it's the fault mentioned by bbapst in post #4 of this thread.

I with jonhiker on this. I've seen it quite a few times and doing things like modifying the spring tension is just compensating for the split chuck. With more paper weight the split widens, preventing the lift plate from fully reaching its maximum height (though enough to actuate the paper present sensor).
