    Ricoh Aficio 1224C -- SC 142 Error

    Abstract
    I have a few 1224C all with the Error Codes 142. Which is:
    White level detection error
    The white level cannot be adjusted
    Dirty exposure glass or optics section within the target during auto gain
    SBU board defective control.
    BICU board defective
    Exposure lamp defective
    Lamp stabilizer defective

    Heres the story to these printers.
    I bought a few new 1224C a while back for real cheap. Most of them are just copiers. I tested several and they color photocopy pretty well. Whit the test, I sent them on their way to asia.

    Almost a year later they arrive at their destination...All with error codes 142 after a short while. Somehow, this code wont let me do anything. I cant clear or reset it. The printers are located in the middle of nowhere, so i cant get support there. I have all the documentation and manuals but they havent helped.

    What should I do next? What can i do other than cry?

          I thought I would have to do that. Theres no other way huh?

          Well while I'm here, whats the best place to buy parts for this machine. How much are the lenses going for?

              What kind of power?

              It just sounds like too big a coincidence that several copiers are producing the same code after being shipped overseas.

              This is just a wild idea, but what voltage /frequency does this asian location use? If the voltage/frequency is being converted from something else to 120v/60Hz the AC may be dirty, or 50Hz, changing the lamp intensity, which would throw off your white level reference.
              If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                  THAT'S THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MY MIND ALSO BLACKCAT!

                  It sounds like you have a power issue or a voltage conversion issue.

                      Yer but it is a well known problem that plagued batches of these models.
                      Hence the part was available FOC under warranty for a long time.

                                  Dan - The 1224/1232 models were some of the worst Ricoh ever made. Except for a VERY few that seemed to have minimal trouble, the best use I can think of for these boxes is an artificial reef.
