    OFF TOPIC-ish

can someone tell me how this has happened then,

I've just had a machine to refurb from ricoh themselves and the counters messed up...

It says the machine has done just over 10K colour and 225K b/w, but two of the colour dev units according to the logging data have done over 400K.. WTF!

none of the counters in the logging data match the machines counter. I don't think they do, but do the units on an MP C4000 retain their counters on a chip inside the unit itself?

My guess is this machine was recovered from a NVRAM failure, than ran for 225K more prints ... from 000000.

But yes. You can't give those machines away in good conscience. They are corpses. If you have any business ethic at all, part them out, then junk what's left. I was going to say that your reputation will suffer, but I don't think you have much of a reputation now. How could it go any lower? =^..^=

Edit: Oops! That's a really old old thread.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Obviously all counters data stored at NVRAM, The rationale to reset the counter was mentioned previously, cut off battery supply to the NVRAM, On other hands, if you are UNIX basis of BSD system expert, then you can modify the counter record whatever you want. you are the hacker on the machine, Unfortunately there are not many such hackers in the world.
Besides, physically look at manufacturing date on the machine, and virtually look at installation date on the SMC report and Serial number.
just like a car we also pay attention on the year of car made, in addition to the mileage, Therefore calculating the monthly volume, if the volume match the machine segment, it should be fine. To users, copying /printing Paper Quality is the strongest point to prove the machine condition, to sales persons included in technician, PM parts quality can judge the value of the machine.

Just curious, did you check the current page count values for those developers in the logging data? There are other counters in the logging data that will show very different results.
Something you might want to double check if you have time.

Thanks for the input guys. It must of had an NVram failure at some point then because I can't imagine Ricoh replacing NVram just to reduce the counter.

looked through the logging data, and the previous units were changed early so I really don't know what they've been doing with it.

All good anyway, machines refurbed and it's passing copies like a beaut!
