For all thats good in the world pleas help with this ft7670 richo

Guys i have a richo 7670 that has "set key counter" on the display and machine is locked down. I got into service mode but the display is old and when i try to hit special features to turn all the security stuff off it wont let me...

Im not used to these machines, can anyone tell me what the machines is asking for so i can get it working again. What is a key counter?

Is there a way to just do away with the key counter? Please help

Generally a key counter is used instead of user codes. Its normally a separate keypad installed on the side or top of the copier. When they have been removed the machine will ask for it to be set. Best way around it is to find the jack it was mounted to, remove it, short circuit the wires that powered it and the machine should no longer recognize a key counter was ever there.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. ~Thomas Edison

THANKS SO MUCH, do you have anymore directions toward shorting it out? I am pretty sure there is no key counter on the side, the end user said normally he'd go punch in his code then use machine but today when he went to use it this message was showing...if i do find one on the side can i just unplug it and cycle power and machine be ok?

The user dont care about having codes, he just wants to be able to make a copy...i dont know which wires to short circut or where to look for jack..i'll get onscene and look one more time so i can give more info.

I've never worked on this model, but from the service manual I can see that in order to use the user code function it has to be enabled in service mode after an initial code is registered in 'user tools'. Then the 'key counter short-circuit connector' is removed from the right side of the machine. I'm guessing that someone disabled the user code function in service mode?, so now 'set key counter' is showing.
The 'short circuit connector' is located on the right side of the machine, top rear behind a pop off plastic cover. Hopefully it's still attached/taped in there nearby (just a plastic flat 3 or 4 pin connector with a wire loop). If it's there then you should be able to plug it back in and that will disengage the set key counter. Of course, do all of this WITH THE POWER OFF.
Attached is the page from the SM to give a clearer description...

ok, its making sense now...IF the short circut connector(part B) is not in there can you tell me which pins to jump to make one? No one has worked on this machine for a long time, one day user just punched in his code and machine worked, next day it ask to " set key counter" according to him.

I can get into SP mode but cant choose option 4 special features b/c the screen must be messed up, the only one that reads my touch is option 2 test mode...hate to buy a screen just to turn off the code function.

Anyone got a used screen or one i can borrow long enough to turn the code function off?

Am i understanding ya right by thinking if i put that short circut connector in machine it will work AND not ask for a stupid code anymore?

            Be very CAREFUL doing this!!

When you find the connector it will have 4 pins.
Take your meter and connect 1 lead the the machine chassis.
Measure the voltage at each pin.... ONLY TOUCH 1 PIN AT A TIME.... DO NOT SHORT BETWEEN PINS!!
Either the left side or right side will read 5 volts. Short the 5v pin to the one next to it (IE either pins 1/2 or pins 3/4... NOT the centre pair) and DO NOT short the pin with 24v to any other.

From memory, there should also be an SP mode that turns "Key Operator" mode off which will then let you into the other user tools screen.

my display wont let me in anything but SP 2...its messed up i guess, no other functions work. Is pin 1 top left and pin 2 top right and 3 bottom left and 4 bottom right by your description?

Your saying if Pin 1 is 5v then short that one to pin 2?

I really need to find a junker machine so i can buy the real connector and display so i can get this thing going. Any one got a junker?

That would be correct, the 5v needs to jumper the adjacent pin.
