Not to mention that doing so is ILLEGAL, no matter what the customer wants.

There are countless posts on this site all saying the same thing.

I’m not sure the exact procedure, but someone here probably does.

Regarding comments that its illegal or unethical, this may be true if your are simply doing it to deceive a buyer, but you did mentioned remanufacturing which puts things in a different light.

Companies, Icon, Xerox and a bunch of others have been doing it for years. I don’t know about other Countries but the US Dept. of Commerce standards state that remanufacturing of a item or its component, including re-setting or replacing any metering devises should include the rebuilding individual components to new or to like new standards.

The only time it would be illegal is in Automobiles where its specifically addressed.

Yes, I know the rules and we are remanufacturing them. Actually I'm competing with ICON as the company I'm quoting has used in them past. They set all the copiers to zero meters on theirs too. So I'm not concerned with comments from those that don't know any better, just the procedure. Thank you

Agree! but I would look elsewhere for your answers and not on the forums here. The ignorant kiddies tend to make stupid comments, kind of like a kindergarten child looking for attention.

              Good Luck

You have to replace the NVRAM, you cant zero the meter any other way.

I believe replacing the NVRAM will accomplish this. Possibly can be done from factory mode also.

I'll probably get slammed for this, but if this guy wants to possibly get popped for doing this, then no sweat of my sack! I'm just in a very generous mood today. and he is going to have to deal with any ramifications resulting from his actions... IE machines not really "re-manufactured" to like new standards but represented as new, pissed off customers, etc.

And really who of us out there have not accepted "free" manuals, firmware, music downloads, etc. before when we have needed them? "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."

                  Happy Friday dude!

How about a few valid points. Newhampshirebill just joined the forum yesterday, and his first question was a real doozy that most techs will not answer because of ethical considerations. Every trained Ricoh tech knows the answer to the question. Newhampshirebill states that he is going to be remanufacturing this equipment, which it appears he is not even trained on. Just thought that was a little strange. He got the answer at any rate, and these forums ARE a good place to find technical help, captain1976.

I think that if you sell a refurbished copier with a resetted meter reading for new, this is illegal, BUT..if the customer/buyer knows that the copier is resetted it's no problem. In Italy it's a common practice to reset the machines and sell/rent it as "used"

I see what they mean about the answers from the idiots out there. But I did find out the NVRAM must be replaced. Thanks

                              ??

The "Kiddies" are, in the main, RICOH trained and have many years of experience on the MP6500 etc, so don't make sweeping statements about "Stupid" comments!!
(For the record, Trained on Ft6645 (YES! the analogue forerunner) AF700 / AF1075 / AF2075 and MP6500 series amongst many other Ricoh models... I think that just about covers it! and I'm sure the other kiddies are the same)

On the other hand we have someone probably not trained (?) and if trained, not particularly knowledgeable about the machine, "Competing" with Ikon whose staff are fully trained and have the backing of a major company.
