    MP5500 SC220

    Hi Guys

I have a MP5500 that is now giving me SC220 only at process control, originally the copies where blurred so we replaced the laser diode and polygon mirror motor, the LD seemed to do the trick, but now everytime it process controls you get sc220.

I have followed the LD set up to the letter changed the 3 sets of numbers and ran the parrallagram test print (which didnt need adjusting).

If i put the old LD back in the dark bluring reappears, but process control works fine.

    any help would be appreciated

    Hello Adam

If the original problem is not carried over when the replacement unit is fitted then i would reckon the replacement is duff and the other components on the machine are ok. how about swapping the laser sync board? is that possible or is it not swapable?

      Hi Bill

Im not sure that changing the laser sync board will make much difference as everytime I have had laser sync errors on a ricoh (which is quite a few) this tiny board has never cured it, and if i fit the old laser the sync errors dont occur, so I think that rules out the sync board.

Although the original LD looks like its overpowring as the copies are very bold so maybe this is stopping the sync detecting an abnormality, was hoping someone on here had said "yep had that its blah blah blah".

The copies are fine at the moment and John is going back in with firmware, which may give more tolerance before detecting errors, my thoughs are that we may have a slighly duff new LD.

      Cheers

      Adam

An "over powered" laser will result in light copies, not bold. Make sure your laser power settings are at the default. Your new laser may be under powered and causing a bad read.

I don't suppose it just needs the coarse and fine line position adjustments done?
