I think it's likely possible that the controllerboards/bcu are identical on the hardware side but that there is some kind of (not replacable) NV ram or different coded ID chip protecting the boards from beeing hacked within the service/factory SP level.

If one is able to locate and read out/write these chips it might be possible to upgrade a machine without buying new PCBs.

That's all assumption of course..

This is true. I think They found this Id chip, They are disconnect this ID chip on pcb. After change the information on ID chip(Maybe a fram or eeprom)
