    MPC 3500 DEAD! only main powe led on

    machine has had many power problems, replaced hdd's first time and machine worked for a couple days, customer said that machine was making copies and making long beeps then shut down, and would not come back on. Gooses Guide aimed me to the MB board that the controller plugs into. I replaced this with no avail... any ideas......??!?! Thanks in advance...

    also machine was plugged into a UPS.

      Indeed it does, power supplies blow on these like New York hookers.
      It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

            Also check the laser. I have seen that a lot.

              Defiately sounds like power supply. Never had a laser unit problem with these machines.

                    Actually, having a banner ad is a great idea and would make everyone happy. He'd have a constant presence but out of the way, we can always tell someone that needed more detail then we could provide "Dude, look at the top of the page".

                        I agree plus I think it's not really OK to rip off money with copyright infringements at all or does he have official agreements with the manufacturer? Doesn't really matter because this should be a place where techs can help each other out - I'n never point somebody to a site that's probably selling SM illegaly.

                        @topic:

                        It's most definetly the PSU - I tried to fix the broken one with a new diode, didn't worked for me - probably there was more stuff blown in that specific case but it's worth a try before buying a pricey PWB.

                          If you can browse into the machine, check if a polygon mirror error is displayed. If it is you need to replace the polygon & possibly also the PSU

                            OK, so where are you getting the diode from? The last time I checked they were not available through the electronic parts shops and the only guy I found on line was in Tiawan and he would only deal with me if I brought 10,000 of them.
