    ghost images AF3030

    Hi friends,
This machine, AF3030, gives shadowing (Ghost images) only on the first print when the customer prints , first thing in the morning, then it is fine. I have replaced the PCU twice, all the parts in fuser has been replaced. I have seen that the charge roller bios changes from the default value of -1700 to -1650 . Is that normal?

I have had this problem in the past on this model, and a new PCU took care of it. Are you using rebuilds or new OEM pcu's? Also, you might try changing the setting of SP 2998-2 (reverse rotation for the drum at the end of a job). I suppose if that is turned off it could create a ghosting problem on the first copy.

      Thanks Mika,
I am using new PCU's (Part No: 411018) but they are not the original from Ricoh, outsourced from a third party. I will try the SP mode you have told me. Also one thing coming to my mind is, could it be the laser synchronizing error which may be causing this?
      Thanks.

Isn't this just moisture building up around the Fusing Unit when it warms up for the first time in the morning?

The machine adjusts the Charge Roller voltage automatically to achieve the best charge on the surface of the drum. After a while the voltage will tend to rise because of the aging drum.

I suppose it could be moisture, depending on the environment. He has tried new PCU's, same problem. I would tend to think any fuser moisture would dissipate in the warmup cycle. I don't know. He didn't mention ld synch errors in the original post. I'm worn out and better do this tomorrow.

Try an OEM PCU first, see if that takes care of the problem.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

            Hit it.
