    toner compability

So, besides being a dealership we have a chain of copy shops round town, now we use AF3228-45 type machines that use R2 toner. And we have a bunch of P2 type toner(from AF2228-45) lying around. So we are close to running out of R2, and there is a long shipping time from our supplier, but we have a bunch of P2 toner lying around.
So one of our techs does the sensible thing, takes a near empty R2, pulls the chip, then stuffs it into the P2 , and voila it works like a charm!

Now someone told us that this wont last, that the chip will count up 10000 and then shutdown the toner. Is this true?
If it is true can we somehow reset the counter, cause we have a bunch of that P2 stuff in stock, and this would be a nice use for it.

    Thanks

Not sure if that is true or not, but even if the machine calculates that the bottle is near empty, it will continue to work as long as toner is "seen" still coming from the bottle. It uses an algorithm along with an actual sensor in the toner hopper to guesstimate what's left. Once it calculates that the bottle is near empty (generally around 50g or so), it will throw up the message. But as long as toner continues to flow, that message will stay there. There may be an sp code to disable the message. Now I'm not sure if swapping the toner will cause any copy quality issues without changing some process settings, that will have to be checked out.

So far no quality issues, we are just worried it will stop on us with half full toners, but if what you said is true then our problem is solved
On our machines its not important weather it asks for toner

Hey I think the 3228c toner has some kind of lube for the fuser in it. ? I'm not sure tho. 22 toner in a 32 may tear up your fuser rollers.

If you are swapping toner between the B147 series and the B178 series machines you will have fusing issues eventually. I had a tech take the wrong toner out to an account and instead of taking the right stuff back out he put the B147 "pouch" in the in the B178 "box" and put it in the machine. Needless to say he had fusing issues about a week later. Not something I would recommend, but it could be a money maker for your servicing agent...
