[Misc] Ricoh Aficio AP3800C - Scanning 11x17 at 400dpi problems

    Hello,

I have a Ricoh 3800C and I am trying to scan an 11x17 in Full Color at 400dpi. However, when I do I get the "exceeded max data capacity, check scan resolution", error.

I am delivering scans over the network to folders on our file server.

I can scan 11x17 at 200 dpi, full color just fine.

I have 384Mb of total RAM on the machine.

According to the manual, I should be able to scan up to 400 dpi for full color 11x17's just fine.

    Any suggestions?

I think there is a limitation on the 11x17 full color scanning of a maximum resolution of 300x300.

Can you scan at 300x300 with 11x17? Can you scan a blank 11x17 page at 400x400?
the savin2535 is displaying well bet the hiter lamp is not shining and the lamp had been tested o.k.please kindly help.
Samir: No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.
Michael Bolton: You and me both, man. That thing is lucky I'm not armed.

I cannot scan at 300x300 dpi. Also tried with blank page and that didn't work. Max I can do is 200 dpi.

Sorry to sound stupid, but what is the "...under the 123 key"?

I don't see that anywhere within the scan settings. Note, I have the Separate top scanner unit this 3800C.

From the Ricoh's answer data base:

"Exceeded max. data capacity. Check scanning resolution, then press Start key again.
The scanned data exceeded maximum data capacity.
Specify the scan size and resolution again. Note that it may not be possible to scan very large originals at high resolution.
Exceeded max. data capacity. Check the scanning resolution, then reset original(s).
The volume of the scan data is too large."

I know there is a limitation on full color 11x17 scanning resolution, based on your findings it is at 200dpi on this model.

That seems to be the case, however, according to the 3260 Scanner Unit Manual for this exact model, the maximum allowable is 400 dpi for 11x17 at full color. Very odd...

If you can, add additional optional RAM to get higher resolutions. I don't recall specifics, but the standard configuration was pretty limiting and adding RAM made life better.

                  The memory is maxed out.

Have you tried changing the file format? Maybe scanning as an image or PDF, depending on your current settings, may get the files through.

Right now I'm scanning to PDF. I could try TIFF I guess?

How about the optional HDD? If that is installed my next thought is that the memory has failed, but still registers with the machine.

Were you able to previously scan at these resolutions that you are unable to now????

It does have a Hard Disc Drive installed. The memory is brand new I've just upgraded to the 384Mb. I have never been able to scan at 400dpi. I've only been able to scan at 200dpi for 11x17 full color.

Does the memory register on the config page and is it from Ricoh?

If yes and yes, perhaps the chips are in the wrong memory slots and need swapped?

You may also try turning on pdf compression in the scan settings (I'm pretty sure this model has the capability, all of the newer ones do).
