    User Code Authentication

Having just installed an MPC5501 into a school with 100 user codes/pin numbers setup for copy/print authentication, can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a prompt pop up to ask you to enter the appropriate code on the print driver without having to go through the preferences menu 1st?. The machine has replaced Sharp MX5500 which had a tick box enabled that then displayed a box to allow user to enter their code each time they went to print. Cant find anything similar on the Ricoh. Suggestions appreciated as always guys.

    Thanks in advance

Try the PCL editor or for a simpler solution just try adding the codes to the valid access tab in printing preferences so you don't have to type it in every time. This won't be a viable solution if they share PC's.
the savin2535 is displaying well bet the hiter lamp is not shining and the lamp had been tested o.k.please kindly help.

Appreciate the reply, but unfortunatley the users do all share pc's so i need (if possible) a way to ask for authentication EVERY time a print job is sent so that it can be billed appropriatly. I have looked through both PCL 5 & 6 drivers but to no avail.

The first recommendation was the PCL editor. I believe it is downloadable from the drivers section of the public Ricoh family sites.

          Printer Driver Editor
good answer. i have installed this a few times. when the user clicks on print, a dialogue box pops up and askes for the user code. it can be installed on a server or on individual workstations.

I should ad that you have to edit the driver BEFORE you install it. So if you've already installed it on a server and deployed it, you will need to do it again after you edit the driver. It's different than the old PCL editor that you edited after installation.

It's also worth noting that the editor only works on the PCL6 driver.

It's clearly noted on the download page, but who actually reads that stuff, right?

BTW... It also works on my personal favorite, the universal PCL6 driver.
