[Dead] Ricoh MP6000 Red Status Indicator And Offline

    Good Morning

I have a customer with a Ricoh Aficio MP6000 Copier thats was wondering if we would take a peek at it (we take care of their canon copiers and they're getting no satifaction from their current ricoh service company). From what I immediately have seen the status indicator is red and i cant get the network connection online. Im guessing its a bad network card but want to be sure. Is there a way to disable it? I've tried disconnecting it to try and isolate the problem but that prevents the machine from booting up. The confusing part (to me) is the whole machine is inoperable. The brands that we normally work on allow the other functions to be used even when there is a connectivity issue. Is this normal on Ricohs or should i be digging deeper. Everything seems fine. The machine starts up, goes through all its warm up process but status indicator never turns green but there is no error code either. When I press the print function I noticed it offline and cant get it back online. Thanks in advance.

Most likely a controller issue. Look at SP7043 SC History, there will be codes that are recorded but not displayed.

Try disconnecting the hard disk then powering up. If it comes to ready, there's your culprit.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

Sounds like the HDD to me too. Found these 2 references online....

          Copier does not boot up

          [Symptom]
Copier does not boot up. Start key stays red.
Neither "Ready to Copy" nor "Please wait" are displayed.
          [Cause]
          HDD is faulty.
Try removing the HDD to isolate the problem. (It may also be possible to restore by performing image file format SP5832-2.)
          [Resolution]
          Replace HDD.
          ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Device hangs after power on

          [Symptom]
Please wait is displayed after main switch is turned on. After that, Please wait is not displayed on the touch panel, the wait time indicator in the lower left decreases, and the indicator goes off after a minute, but the Ready to copy indicator is not displayed.
The print key remains red, all the keys respond and SP mode can be entered, but, when an attempt is made to output SMC, the print command screen is not displayed. Also, when attempting to print out a count, the Print button becomes green using the Print Counter List key, but when it is pressed, it changes to red and hangs without producing any output. Moreover, when an attempt to update the version of the software was made, Please wait remains displayed and the VerUP initialization screen is not displayed. The indicator remains on when each of the covers is opened and closed, the initialization behavior is normal, and the fusing heater turns on and off normally as well.

          [Cause]
The HDD is faulty, possibly because the main power switch was turned off and on a number of times when an SC occurred. When a scanner hard key is pressed, there is no response, only a "beep, beep" sound. In SP mode, the scanner icon is not displayed.
HDD errors without accompanying SC log entries have been recorded in the past as well.
          [Resolution]
Replacing the HDD fixes the problem.

Thanks for all the help. By the way the consistent errors in the log is 355. I will try the hard drive. Haven't had the chance to look up error code yet. Thanks again.

              [Cause]
Although it seems to be a memory/HDD/controller/firmware failure, the problem is caused by the Drum Potential Sensor: it is very dirty (contaminated with toner dust) or defective.

              [Action]
First clean the Drum Potential Sensor and check the connector in front of the drum-unit.
If not OK, replace the Drum Potential Sensor.

What you are listing sharpmind is a case where a copy can be made and then then a 'Please Wait" condition occurs. That is not the problem he is describing, though the sc355 surely is related to the potential sensor.

                Symptom]
Please wait condition occurs after the first print/copy job.
After reboot same thing: only 1 job can be made, then Please wait appears on display.

I cant even get one copy out of the machine so I'm kinda leaning away from the potential sensor but its worth a look. From what teebee sent it may have been the original problem the customer had and after several on/off cycles of them resetting the error they've damaged their hard drive also. I won't know until the machine is up and running. May be looking at a couple of issues. Thanks again guys. I'll keep you posted.
