which scanning are you doing? I am going to assume that you are setting up twain scanning so that the end user can scan to their pc. you need the twain driver (ricoh-usa.com/downloads) and either scanrouter or desktop binder, which if you have the drivers disk for the machine they should be on there. If you have a choice of software my preference is desktop binder. It gives you a handy task bar so scanning becomes really easy for the end user, plus you can designate where to store the scans. Probably not much help but a start.

We usually set up the scanner to scan to a folder using SMB, or scan to email. There are no other software app's required to do it that way, also scanner destinations can be chosen directly from the machine, unlike twain where you would have to set your docs, go back to your pc to scan them, then go back to the machine to get your originals.

THIS MACHINES HAVE SCANNING ENBEDDED IN THEM, MEANING USING THE MACHINE'S INTERFACE OR USER TOOLS CREATE A PATH SUCH AS //SERVER name or ip/folder name. make sure to set proper folder permissions and authentication on the server.

by default the login to the machine's interface is blank user name and "password" for password, address book, add user and from there it should be self explanatory.

If you are looking to do SMB scanning to a Windows 2003 server you will need custom firmware for this machine to allow it to do packet signing. This is only available from Ricoh's tech site.

Packet signing is disabled by default on Win 2003 Server, however it is on by default on SBS 2003.

Packet signing can be turned off on the server, subject to the end-user's IT guy's approval, by following these instructions:

                1. From Administrative Tools open Domain Controller Security Policy
                2. Select the Security Settings\Local Policies\Security options folder
                3. Double-click Microsoft Network Server: Digitally sign communications (always), then select Disabled and click OK
                4. Double-click Domain member: Digitally encrypt or signsecure channel data (always), then select Disabled and click OK
                5. Click start then run, type gpupdate into the box and press enter to force a group policy update.

Alternatively, install Scanrouter or use scan to email via their exchange server, if they have one.
